Bingelister / Bingeworthy – Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Bingelister (and the related Bingeworthy view) (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our Service at https://bingelister.com.
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Account information (via Firebase Authentication), such as email address, display name, profile photo URL (if provided), and auth provider (e.g., Google, email/password).
- Favourites and settings, such as channels you mark as favourites and certain UI preferences (for example sort order) if stored.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Usage and playback data, such as which channels and videos you watch, timestamps and progress per video/channel, and BingeScore-related metrics used to rank channels.
- Technical data, such as IP address, basic device/browser information, and timestamps of requests and errors, as logged by hosting providers and Firebase.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and operate the Service – remember your favourites and playback progress, build chronological playlists, and compute/display BingeScore.
- Improve the Service – debug issues, improve performance, and understand feature usage in aggregate.
- Protect the Service – detect abuse or suspicious activity and rate-limit or block malicious traffic if needed.
We do not sell your personal data.
3. YouTube Data and YouTube API Services
The Service uses YouTube API Services to fetch public information about channels and videos (for example titles, thumbnails, and durations) and to build chronological lists of videos for playback.
We only request and store public YouTube data. We do not access your private YouTube account (no OAuth login with YouTube, no access to your subscriptions, private playlists, or watch history). All video playback is done via the official YouTube iframe player.
By using the Service, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy .
4. Cookies and Local Storage
We may use cookies and/or local storage to remember certain UI preferences and to cache small pieces of non-sensitive data to make the app feel faster. We do not currently use cookies for third-party advertising networks. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy.
5. Data Sharing
We may share your data only in these limited situations:
- Service providers – We use providers like Google Firebase, hosting, and (optionally) analytics services to run the Service. They process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies.
- Legal requirements – We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
- Aggregated / anonymized data – We may publish or share aggregated statistics that do not identify individual users (for example “Most binged channels overall”).
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
6. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. If you stop using the Service, we may retain some anonymized or aggregated information which cannot be linked back to you.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain types of processing.
If you would like to exercise any of these rights, contact us at [bingelister+legal@gmail.com]. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including using trusted infrastructure providers (such as Google Firebase), restricting access via security rules, and using HTTPS for data in transit. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date when changes are made. Your continued use of the Service after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
